Boat Cove consists of a small but narrow inlet that lies between Basore Point and The Greeb. The reef east of Boat Cove and The Greeb is lower than the surrounding rock outcrops, and has more pools. One series of interconnecting pools can be followed down the shore to the start of The Greeb. There are quite a few suitable algal species within the pools, species include Chondrus crispus, Corallina officinalis, Sargassum muticum, Calliblepharis jubata, Gastroclonium ovatum, Cladostephus spongiosus and Ceramium species. The pools at this site are very exposed, it appears that The Greeb has to a certain extent helped reduce wave impact in specific areas of the site and helped protect intertidal fauna and flora. The algae here was in a reasonable state when surveyed after all the winter 2013/14 storms.
This site, distant view of area surveyed, could be a good site to search in May / June for Haliclystus auricula, and later in July / August for Depastrum cyathiforme because of the rocky nature of the site and the local currents.
